Safety Notes, Warnings and Precautions for the EPM Solution

Read these instructions carefully, and look at the equipment to become familiar with the device before trying to install, operate, service, or maintain it.

DANGER

HAZARD OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK, EXPLOSION OR ARC FLASH

  • Electrical equipment must only be installed, operated and maintained by suitably qualified personnel.

  • Power down all equipment before starting the installation, removal, wiring, maintenance or inspection of the device.

  • Use an appropriately rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off.

  • The device must be wired and fused in compliance with local and national regulatory requirements for the rated current and voltage of the particular device, for example in the UK, the latest IEE wiring regulations (BS7671) and in the USA, NEC Class 1 wiring methods.

  • Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices. See applicable national standards, for example, NFPA70E, CSA Z462, BS 7671, NFC 18-510.

  • Do not exceed the device ratings.

  • Do not install or use if any part of the device is damaged. Contact your supplier.

  • Do not disassemble, repair or modify equipment outside of the instructions within this Help Center. Contact your supplier for repair.

  • The device must be installed in an enclosure appropriately rated for its intended environment.

  • Ensure all cables and wiring harness are secured using an appropriate strain relief mechanism.

  • Use appropriate safety interlocks where personnel and/or equipment hazards exist.

  • The protective earth must be connected first and not disconnected or interrupted.

Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury

Note - Qualified personnel are those with the skills and knowledge related to the construction and operation of electrical equipment and its installation and have received safety training to recognize and avoid the hazards involved.

HAZARD OF FIRE

  • Ensure the correct wire gauge size is used per circuit and it is rated for the current capacity of the circuit.

  • Ensure only the recommended connectors are used.

  • Tighten all connections in conformance with the torque specified. Periodic inspections are required.

The safety of any system incorporating this device is the responsibility of the assembler/installer of the system.

Intended Use

The device described or affected by this document, together with software and options, is the EPM Solution, incorporating EPM Data Management. It is intended for industrial use according to the instructions, directions, examples and safety information contained in this Help Center and other supporting user assistance.

The device must only be used in compliance with all applicable safety regulations and directives, the specified requirements and the technical data.

Prior to using the device, a risk assessment must be performed in respect of the planned application. Based on the results, the appropriate safety-related measures must be implemented.

Since the device is used as a component within a machine or process, you must ensure the safety of this overall system.

Operate the device only with the specified cables and accessories. Use only genuine accessories and spare parts.

Any use other than the use explicitly permitted is prohibited and can result in unanticipated hazards.

 

WARNING

EQUIPMENT OPERATION HAZARD

  • Signal and power voltage wiring must be kept separate from one another.

  • Shielded cable must be grounded at one end only.

  • Only use this device in EMC environment A (Industrial). Use of this device in environment B (establisments connected to domestic or residential power) may cause unwanted electromagnetic disturbances in which cases the installer may be required to take adequate mitigation measures.

  • For electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), metallic enclosures and DIN rails to which the device is attached must be grounded.

  • Observe all electrostatic discharge precautions before handling the device.

  • Ensure the cybersecurity robustness of the solution.

  • Remove tools, meters, and debris from equipment.

  • Before performing operational tests, remove all blocks or other temporary holding means used for shipment from all component devices.

  • Verify that all installation and set up procedures have been completed.

  • Do not connect outputs until it is safe to do.

  • Electrically conductive pollution must be excluded from the enclosure in which the device is mounted.

CAUTION

UNINTENDED EQUIPMENT BEHAVIOR

  • Independent system safety mechanisms must be installed and regularly inspected and maintained.

  • If being stored before use, store within the specified environmental conditions.

  • Do not allow anything to fall through the case apertures and ingress the device.
