Replacing your Input/Output (I/O) Module

Note - Before installing this device, read and comply with the Safety Notes, Warnings and Precautions for the EPM Solution.

An I/O module can be changed when the device is either powered on or powered off:

  • Hot-Swapping - Changing modules while the device is powered on.

  • Replacing - Changing modules while the device is powered off.

Select from the following options to expand the details:

Tip - Ensure you select a replacement module of the same type. When replacing with a different module type, replace or update the terminal block wiring to ensure compatibility.
Note - Ensure you remove one module at a time.

 

DANGER

HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION OR ARC FLASH

  • Only perform a hot-swap operation in locations known and confirmed to be non-hazardous.

  • While power is applied, remove and insert the module by hand. Do not use any metal tools.

  • Do not disconnect any wires from the terminal block.

  • Disconnect the power supply if the I/O module voltage is above 30 Vac RMS (42.4 V peak) or 60 Vdc.

Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury

 

NOTICE

MEASUREMENT INACCURACIES

  • Do not leave slots empty for an extended period.

  • Ensure dummy modules are fitted into all empty slots.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage

Note - Fitting dummy modules into empty slots ensures all data transmitted over the backplate is not corrupted.

 

CAUTION

UNINTENDED EQUIPMENT OPERATION

  • Do not remove the terminal block, before removing the module from the backplate.

  • Do not perform two consecutive hot-swap operations in less than five seconds.

  • Observe all electrostatic discharge precautions before handling the unit.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in injury or equipment damage

 

To hot-swap an I/O module while the device is powered on:

  1. Remove the old module by depressing the lever on the top to release it and gently unhook it from the bottom.

  2. Remove the terminal block from the old module.

    Note - For all output modules, only perform a hot-swap when the load is switched off.

  3. Hook the lower part of the replacement module on to the device and then press the module upwards until it clicks into place.

  4. Reconnect the same terminal block to the new module.

To replace an I/O module while the device is powered off:

  1. Remove the old module by depressing the lever on the top to release it and gently unhook it from the bottom.

  2. Remove the terminal block from the old module.

  3. Hook the lower part of the replacement module on to the device and then press the module upwards until it clicks into place.

  4. Reconnect the same terminal block to the new module.

Note - For a module, the maximum number of insertion or extraction is limited to 50.
