How do I configure a Job?

Note - This is an example user case. It can be used to base your system requirements on.

This user-case example, details how to configure a Job that displays a message on the screen of any connected EPM Data User Interface when an I/O Channel's input goes over or falls under a set threshold value:

Step One - Set up the I/O

The following steps outline briefly how to set-up the I/O.

  1. Insert an AI3 module into the first slot of the EPM Data Management device.

  2. Login to the EPM Data User Interface, see Logging in for details.

  3. Discover and Add the AI3, see Discovering I/O Modules for details.

  4. From the first channel on the AI3, set its descriptor to be 'Temperature Sensor', see I/O Channels for details.

Step Two - Configuring the Alarms

The next steps create two alarms, a high alarm and a low alarm. The input to these alarms is the first channel on the AI3 module. These alarms activate when the AI exceeds 80 or falls below 20:

  1. Add an alarm to that channel with the Alarm Type 'Temperature Sensor High Alarm', see Configuring an Alarm for details.

  2. Set the Alarm to have a Trigger Condition Type of Absolute High.

  3. Set the Alarm Threshold to be '80', this is the value that when exceeded, the alarm activates.

  4. Select the Temperature Sensor Channel again and add another alarm to the channel with descriptor 'Temperature Sensor Low Alarm'.

  5. Set the Alarm to have a trigger type of Absolute Low.

  6. Set the Alarm Threshold to be '20'.

  7. Once complete, select Review pending changes screen to review updates to the configuration, and submit them. See Reviewing and Submitting Changes for details if required.

    Note - Reviewing and submitting can be completed in bulk once you have completed all your additions and/or updates.

Step Three - Configuring the Job and Action

Within EPM Data Management, actions are attached to jobs, you must therefore set up a Job before you can configure an action.

To configure a Job with an associated action:

  1. From the Jobs screen, create a Job with the Descriptor of 'Temperature Alarms', see Configuring Jobs for details.

  2. From Trigger sources - action conditions, from Source 1 - Select source choose Alarms Process - Temperature Sensor/High.

  3. Select Add to create Source 2.

  4. From Trigger sources - action conditions, from Source 2 - Select source choose Alarms Process - Temperature Sensor/Low.

    Note - Ensure neither source are inverted.
  5. From Operation to apply, select OR.

  6. Select Add action and the new action displays under the Temperature Alarms Job in the Jobs pane.

  7. Select the new action and ??????
